05/18/2010: Going to Louisiana
I think this dream was triggered from me thinking about how crazy it is that I went to New York only a month ago and I’m already wanting to go on another road trip.
But why Louisiana? I had planned on going in July 2009, but do to poor planning and budgeting, decided to just stay and explore Charlotte, North Carolina, instead. Then I had a dream that I was planning to go for Mardi Gras, which I might do next year. The weird thing was, in part of my dream, I pictured the state being over in Nevada or Oregon part of the country.
So my dream was all about me packing and getting ready to drive down there. I don’t remember a particular place in the state, though.
I was working for a great-paying job where I was an “investigator” of some sort. I wasn’t in charge of anyone or anything, but I loved my job, I was good at it and was given freedom to do my job how I saw fit. I think it was for the government or something. Something like the FBI. I remember wearing nice professional clothing - it was actually tailored! - and I had a handgun, kinda like the ones you see in movies about the FBI. I hated wearing it though, because it was heavy and weighted down my left side. I have the same issue with wearing a purse in waking life.
Whoever my employer was, they provided me with excellent benefits. I got free training and education, but they still required me to write papers sometimes and I was finishing a 20-page paper for a class before I left. I was having my dad read through it for errors.
I remembered I was in a smaller apartment in my dream - maybe it was the same size, but I had a lot more crap and it was messy and stuffy. It was almost as if I was storing stuff that I received all at once and had nowhere to put it. I remember yellow sunlight coming into the room, making it feel more stuffy.
My employer provided me with a large apartment in a better neighborhood near the main office, but I never moved in because I was afraid that once I moved in, I’d lose the job or hate it and quit and then would have to move again. But five months into the job, I was loving it and saw myself working there for years. So the stuffy-ness got to me and I decided after I got back to MOVE ON and START OVER.
So I went to check out the new apartment. It was HUGE. Maybe a good 2,000-3,000 square feet. It was like a studio apartment, though, and had no walls and there was a staircase on the left that went upstairs to a large bedroom. The windows were all high near the ceiling, but let in a lot of light. All there was in the apartment at this time was a desk and chair in the center of the apartment.
I remember discussing with a supervisor that I was going down there for fun, but I’ll do some work down there. Since I planned to take weird routes down and back, I wouldn’t charge for miles or more drive time that what Google Maps said it should take. I showed him a paper - a copy of a fax - asking for an investigation to be done in Louisiana and he said that it should have been sent to that state instead, but I showed them that they wanted someone outside the normal people to go in an act like part of a group (like a spy, but they called it a “worm”) and so I was allowed then. After that, they decided to give me more work - they wanted me to attend conference calls at different high schools to report on another investigation going on down there.
Other than that, I remember being in a cafeteria (at a training center) and a group of students (all guys my age) did a grilled chicken cook-off - I got there too late, but a friend of mine that had a plate full of chicken with bites taken out of them said with a full mouth that they were cooking some more soon. I remember the training facility having a lot of blue, as if it was one of the school colors.
